Curbside data is critical to facilitate curb management tools, like dynamic curb regulations and pricing, which allow for greater mobility and access for people and businesses on our streets. However, collecting curbside information at scale is often a barrier to practicing digital curb management.

Urban Movement Labs (UML) partnered with CurbIQ in the summer of 2021 to test a faster method for creating a digital curb inventory. The study area included three Los Angeles neighborhoods and a subset of neighboring Maywood, representing the breadth of land use contexts in Greater Los Angeles. This complimentary webinar will explore key findings from a recent joint report by UML and CurbIQ. You also will learn the implications for planning, regulating, and monetizing the use of curb space.

FAQs

Is my city too big / too small to participate in this pilot?

Curbside demands and allocation differ from municipality-to-municipality, and virtually all municipalities would better from an understanding of their curbside regulations. Because of the value of curbside data, municipalities of all shapes and sizes can and should apply.

How does CurbIQ collect the data? Am I involved as a municipality?

CurbIQ has a variety of methods to generate a city’s curb layer that largely depend on the existing data a municipality has available to offer. These processes can be done completely independently of the city or involve city staff for surveying while CurbIQ completes the processing – these options are flexible depending on a municipality’s preferences.

How long does it take to set up this data in CurbIQ?

This depends on the datasets currently available, and the size of the desired pilot area. Typically, you would be up and running within a month of giving the CurbIQ team the go-ahead.

Can the public view this information?

This is entirely up to the municipality. Sharing curbside and parking information with the general public and curbside users has many benefits. However, municipalities may want to use CurbIQ for planning purposes, and do some curbside regulation 'housekeeping' before providing to the general public.

Can we customize what information is shown in CurbIQ for the pilot?

Yes, within reason. Anything that is geospatially referenced can generally be displayed and filtered within CurbIQ. This can include anything from speed limit data to fire hydrant locations. The information related to the pop-ups or various panels can also be customized to fit your needs.

If we have real-time data, can you show it?

Yes, we can integrate existing data, estimate based on historical data, or even install sensors and collect data in an automated fashion.
